Our Middle School consists of students in 6th through 8th grade. We believe these years to be a dynamic time developmentally in the life of a young person. Many are forming deep relationships with peers and mentor adults, establishing habits of self discipline, shaping their worldview, and figuring out how they fit in. Most significantly, they are often bombarded with the influences of culture and society, needing guidance to navigate through these messages, choosing that with which they will align.
We desire to co-op with parents to provide stability and consistency at a time where emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually these young people are encountering vast changes. We understand our role is to partner with parents and support family life. It is therefore important to us that parents feel they can provide input and suggestions for consideration in enhancing the school experience for everyone. It is our hope that together we can make this a place that continually reflects God's heart.
TRANSITIONING TO MIDDLE SCHOOL
When students enter the sixth grade, we provide them with an expanding transition into Middle School. That is we provide various opportunities for gradual integration into the academic culture of the upper grades. For instance, students have a few classes to which they travel to the teacher's classroom, giving them the experience of managing their books and binders away from one desk location. We believe this diminishes many unknowns for them at the time of full entry into Middle School the next year - a time already riddled with much apprehension - emotionally and otherwise.
WELL-ROUNDED LEARNING
The Middle School curriculum provides training in the mainstream curriculum of Math, Language, Science (including Lab time), Social Studies (including Geography), as well as Bible. These classes are taught by a team of teachers working together to integrate the elements of learning from class to class. This philosophy is also exercised in our Specials: Computers, Spanish, Art, Music and Gym. In this way we provide a cohesive education where the approach to the student addresses the whole of their experience, rather than just their time within one teacher's classroom.
A simple example would be tailoring instruction so that computer skills can be strengthened while fulfilling the elements assigned in a Social Studies presentation. In this way, the material learned in one discipline is highlighted and reinforced while in the environment of another discipline.
A NURTURING COMMUNITY
We provide a wonderful combination of experiences where all the age groups in the school interact with one another during special events, as well as enjoy the smaller atmosphere of relationships within their own. For example, it's not unusual to have a middle school class visiting one of the Elementary classrooms working a Service Learning experience together or reading books to one another.
We find these young people capable of excelling when given the opportunity to serve others. Some of our students give time to teachers as well, helping with younger children in the classroom, helping decorate bulletin boards, organizing shelves, etc.
PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE
It is our desire to see children and youth raised to honor and respect our Creator God, and in turn, to whom and that which He loves and has made. The educational focus at Concord Christian is not only centered around this theme, but in preparing students to go out into the world as well, to be exceptional models of people who are diligent workers, and know how to apply their particular strengths and talents to that which they're given to accomplish, and to know a spirit of joy while doing it!
